The Hunter's Lair is located in Crawford, CO - a town of about 430 people. While the Lair itself is a great little spot and Tammy is a fantastic host, there are a few things prospective guests should know.
First, yes you can sleep six in the Lair. However, only one of the beds is in a private room. The other two beds are in the main area with no privacy. If you're traveling with folks that like to sleep in and you don't ... put them in the private room. As posted in the listing, there is only one bathroom.
Second, don't look for a grocery store or a restaurant in Crawford. You won't find either. Hotchkiss is about 11 miles away and has a grocery store and several restaurants. We tried 133 BRGR and Zack's BBQ. Both were OK, but nothing to write home about. The City Market grocery store was pretty well stocked when we shopped there.
Third, the Lair is equipped with a number of very nice touches. You can tell Tammy has been doing this for a while and has listened to her guests. The single bathroom has air freshener. (Thank you!) There are dishes, utensils and glasses of all sorts. The only thing we lacked was a lighter for the grill, but there were matches. There are night lights for navigating your way after lights-out without having to wake those sleeping in the main area. There were facial tissues in the bathroom and the main area. (So many VRBOs don't provide such things.) Tammy responds quickly to texts when you have questions or a request. There was plenty of hot water for three to shower. (Not sure about six.) There are all sorts of maps of the area and a book with ideas for nearby activities. If the evenings are cool, you can use the front and rear screen doors and exhaust fan to pull a nice breeze through the main area. The deck is fenced for privacy and has nice evening shade.
All in all, this is a great place to stay if you are visiting the North Rim of the Black Canyon or even running down to the Ouray area for a day. Highly recommended!
