Great location but not for young children
We recently stayed here with family including two small children. The house is lovely but much of the furniture is easily moved. There are two tall cabinets in the living area that are quite precariously placed, and one almost fell over as the toddler ran by, just as a caution for other families. The location is wonderful in the heart of Georgetown, but on a lovely quiet street. The back patio was delightful. We did have an issue in that the garage door was broken, thus we had to park on the street. We were told we would be provided with a permit for street parking but that never materialized. Holiday weekend so perhaps that was the issue. We did have to walk to the alley and around to the back of the house to take trash out, as no other exit to garbage cans. The other issue was with the temperature in the house. There seemed to be no way to modulate the air conditioning and while it was warm outside, it was an icebox in the house.
Thanks for your stay!
Garage door has been replaced.
There is a thermostat in the house, right in the hall, unlocked and controlled by the guests.
I will be sure to check on that cabinet for future guests.
This is a gem of a place - beautifully restored townhouse in the heart of Georgetown. It is tastefully decorated with lovely and functional antique furniture as befits the style and age of the house. The attractive kitchen is fully furnished with up to date equipment, the pretty bedrooms are comfortable, and the garden is delightful. Our family would definitely stay there again.
This property has it's good and bad and I'd like to clarify a few things from the listing and also from previous reviews. First of all, the location is perfect. It's convenient to the city and to everything in Georgetown but is also quiet and secluded. The house is old and if that's your thing, great. It's not mine. The basement was dingy and had a low ceiling. There also seems to be a problem with some small worms in the bathroom down there. No bathroom on the main floor is odd but we dealt with it. The upstairs configuration is strange. The "master" bedroom has a queen bed. The other bedroom has a king bed and you have to use the hallway bathroom which is a tub only, no shower. Essentially, my wife and I and our two kids all used the master bathroom to shower which is mildly inconvenient considering it's a 3 bath house......a little misleading. I wasn't comfortable having the kids in the basement bedroom secluded from us with some windows and a door accessible from the front of the house. There are bars over everything, but still. The living/dining area on the main floor is nice and spacious. The courtyard is nice too. property manager did not respond to texts but would respond to emails typically within a day. My biggest issue though with this property was the garage. It is a 2 car garage with one spot occupied by the owner's vehicle. It is parked very liberally from the wall and it is crooked. Essentially you can park a Prius in this garage but not much else. We had a Ford Explorer and barely could get in with no room to open the doors. I had to remove a shelf from the wall to be able to get in the garage. We ended up giving up and parking on the street. The property manager did get us a parking pass to do that legally.
Will stay again if the opportunity arises
A beautiful property in a beautiful neighborhood with a ton of amenities.
Nice enough place, with a dishonest listing and not helpful ownership/management.
If you're able to get past the uncommunicative/unhelpful ownership and the dishonest listing, then the place itself is nice enough.
I'll review the townhouse itself first. It's a great location on a pretty street. The decor is dated but nice enough. There's plenty of space, although there's no bathroom or bedroom on the ground floor, so if you have any mobility issues, this isn't the place for you. Check in is 4:00 and check out is 10:00, and they expect you to have your towels washed and in the dryer by the time you leave (warning - the washing machine takes about an hour). We had some trouble finding a place to hang our clothes. All the closets and cabinets are locked and marked "owner" except for one in the master bedroom. Seriously - if you're staying in the other bedroom or the basement, prepare to live out of your suitcase. It's not the most welcoming approach.
Beyond the home, however, was the ownership/management. Cliff isn't particularly responsive and doesn't seem to care about making his guests happy. He takes a few days to answer emails and, when he does, he doesn't really bother replying to the questions you asked. His partner Paul (listed in their welcome email as a "problem solver") isn't better - I texted him to ask about the wifi, and he didn't bother answering me.
Our biggest issue, however, is that the listing is either misleading or an outright lie. I'm looking at it right now and the headline says "Georgetown! Top of the Hill! Off-street parking for 2. Steps to Wisconsin Ave." Nope. We were banking on parking two cars there, but the welcome email a week before our arrival said that there is space in the garage for 1 car only. I emailed Cliff to ask about early check in and to confirm 1 car only, since the listing said 2. He replied that early check in wasn't possible ... and didn't answer my question about the parking (consistent). I asked again, noting that it was listed as parking for 2. He replied "1 car in garage only." Cool. That's a problem in Georgetown. Parking is tough, and garages are expensive. Not Cliff's problem.
And that's kind of the theme. The place is nice enough. The location is great. Cliff doesn't seem to care whether you enjoy yourself or it lives up to your expectations. For as expensive as it is after taxes, fees and all, I think he should.
Beautiful but we had problems
This home is a beautiful old Georgetown townhome, but we did have some problems.
Trash was left over from last tenant in kitchen.
No WiFi, we called to have it fixed and never did.
The garage would not operate properly and ended up locking us in the last night we were there. Manager did come early in the morning to let us out.
The upstairs bathroom door locked us inside the bathroom (knob just spins) and the other bathroom door will not shut.
The lights in the living room flicker.
There was a leak to the couch from the A/C vent, which only leaked when it was raining.
Dude ran his truck into our garage door and broke it. Wifi works great and this is a great place in Georgetown. I think this maybe his passive aggressive way of thanking me for not charging him for breaking our garage door. Classic Georgetown house on top of a hill.
