Lots of character in convenient location
We enjoyed our stay at Mac St Martin very much. Communication with Joel was great--quick responses and excellent English skills. We love the character of the house, a 100-year-old former dairy, but felt that several small maintenance issues and the lack of an air-conditioning unit in the master bedroom (the only bedroom without shutters to keep the sun out during a heat wave) kept us from awarding all five stars.
Some minor issues: No soup spoons, off smells in several rooms, lots of non-functioning light bulbs, no towels for pool use, build-up of scale in bathrooms, washing machine needed tweaking, and generally too many personal items of the owners' on surfaces.
Overall, we highly recommend this house and would stay there again.
We thank you Andrea for helping us improving the experience of our house.
We are already planning to set up air conditioning in the master bedroom for our future visitors in 2020.
Beautiful and spacious home (with a refreshing pool), located in a charming village.
Two families (5 children and 4 adults) enjoyed our week-long stay in Pernes-les-Fontaines. The house (formerly a dairy farm) was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking and making ourselves at home.
Everyone had space to relax (and sometimes work—thanks to reliable wifi). We enjoyed the pool each day, and eating meals all together on the shady patio. Our hosts were helpful and hospitable.
We recommend Mas Saint-Martin!
Delightful old farmhouse and garden in a picturesque village
The house is big, well-appointed and equipped, and the rooms characterful. The garden is lovely, with several shady corners as well as a largeish lawned area. The swimming pool is on the small side but we had great fun in it.
We ate outside most evenings at the large table on the terrace - but we needed insect repellent as the area has tiger mosquitoes - not dangerous but they bite a lot.
The shops, restaurants and markets of Pernes are a short walk away and there is plenty to see and do in the region.
Altogether, a very enjoyable holiday indeed.
Thank you very much for your valued support and transparent information
Super séjour dans une maison très agréable, idéalement située à Pernes dans une ville charmante et animée.
Merci à nos hôtes et bravo pour leur belle propriété.
Nous reviendrons dans la région !
We had a lovely time in Mas St Martin
We stayed for two weeks over July-August 2014. We had never been to the south of France and had not stayed before in what is essentially a home (as opposed to a holiday villa). We also had some quite specific requirements: my wife’s mother wanted temperatures of above 25 degrees, the children wanted a pool, we did not want to have to hire a car as we never really use it and we all wanted some nice food! Our stay in Pernes delivered all of these things. There was plenty of space in the house for us all and there is everything you need in the kitchen (when in the south of France how can you not cook a daube of beef?) We were met by Maggie on behalf of the owner but we were also in email contact with the owner and on the odd occasion that something needed to be sorted, it was done very quickly. The garden is spacious and private – the olive trees were particularly nice.
Pernes is a lovely little town with two supermarkets, loads of bakeries along with cake shops and butchers. A car makes life easier without a doubt but we used the local bus service to go to Carpentras and it was no effort. There is also a very good tourist information centre in the town where they are very helpful. The market on Saturday morning is excellent (as is the Carpentras one) and there is a smaller market on Wednesday evening. There is a range of restaurants of varying degrees of quality (price), we especially liked the Cote de Jardin. France is on a par with the UK price-wise, chicken is a bit more expensive but the wine is taxed less and is wonderfully cheap by comparison to back home. Twice a day we would stroll out to get fresh bread from the bakery which is a couple of hundred yards away.
If you are interested in wildlife then it is worth noting that several species of butterfly were regularly in the garden along with Jersey Tiger Moth and the famous cicada. Overhead, we had Short-toed Eagle, Hobby, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Common Buzzard and Bee-eater with a roller from the taxi just outside Pernes! In the spring I would imagine that it would be great for birds (car may be required to maximise on this interest).
We had a great time and you can see a few pictures of the house and Pernes on Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/alicrowle/?find=alistair.crowle%40yahoo.com
