Cute and nostalgic
This property is cute and quaint. Very clean and welcoming overall. It is very small and just crosses rustic, so if you are seeking all the modern comforts this may not be the best choice. The local beach is washed out so you will need to travel 15 minutes or more to somewhere with access. There is a deck but there is frequent wasp/hornet traffic so we chose not to sit out there. The doors and windows have large gaps, and we did have to deal with a wasp inside each day. Other than that, no bug issues.
It is musty, but not overwhelming (I’m very sensitive to this) - however our weather was mild and not very humid. I also brought some damp-rid which did seem to help.
The a/c is a simple older unit in one window of the main room. We did not have to use it, so can’t speak on its effectiveness.
The kitchen provides all the necessities - small (not mini) fridge, small stove/oven, microwave, toaster, and coffee pot. Limited paper supplies and provided as well (paper towel, toilet paper, napkins, tissues). Plus utensils. I brought paper plates/bowls and that worked best for us.
The bathroom is modest - shower only. Towels and washcloths available. The water is well, and sewage septic. No issues with losing hot water.
Linens are provided on the bed - with extras available for the pull out. The tv in the bedroom turns on - but appears to work for vhs tapes only, but we didn’t try. We weren’t able to get anything more than snow static. WiFi is available but is slow and spotty - it does the job for email/social media checks. Was able to stream some music, but it cut out often. Some old games and interesting reading material are available for those interested.
I would say this property is best for outdoorsy types and those who seek an old timey vibe. The owner stopped over on day 1 and was very friendly and welcoming. She must live nearby because she was at/around the property daily.
Overall, it was a nice stay.
Small hot musty
It’s been one week and damage insurance has not been refunded
That doesn’t seem right does it?
The damage deposit comes directly from Home Away/VRBO, and takes about 2 weeks. The fee will be put back on the credit card you used when you reserve the cottage. I personally don’t have any thing to do with it.
Small, hot, NOT FOR SMALL CHILDREN
I encourage you to read through the reviews, as several of them had negative comments and still 4-5 stars. This place is TINY and very outdated. Not for small children at all. Extremely hot and uncomfortable. The small window AC unit was reading at 81-83 the entire first day and into the night. We took our two year old and 11 month old, whom slept in just a diaper and underwear and were still uncomfortable. Also, our last day and a half there we had NO hot water and we were told by the owner “these things happen”. I understand that may be true, but it should be fixed immediately and/or we should be compensated in some way. We tried contacting the owner a couple different times and did not receive responses until 12-24 hours after our first attempt. - When we were there, there was also no beach due to high water (which can’t be helped, of course!), but was definitely a big bummer. A little pricey for what you’re getting for sure!
Like a hug from your grandma
Cozy comfortable charming cottage. If you desire a simple, charming, wonky (doors and windows), yet quite comfortable little cottage to get away for a while, this is it. A little worn with many vintage touches makes it feel like a visit to grandma's house in the 1960s. I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay.
We had a wonderful time at Patricia cottage. Older but clean. She was great about any questions I had. Will stay again when I can.
Lovely cottage a bit over-priced
Reservation & check in were fine. I think the listing should mention a few more details: public beach access is virtually nonexistent. There is access from a local public park, but you have to drive there. The cottage bathroom is very out of date & the whole stay would have been much nicer if the owner updated it. Shower didn't work on arrival, but the owner was very gracious and got it repaired quickly. The kitchen was adequate though again not at all updated. Plus the previous guest didn't clean out coffee maker, & house keeper apparently didn't check it. So we jad a rude surprise when ee made our 1st pot of coffee. Cottage only has space heaters, & is not insulated. If you're there at peak season in very warm/hot weather it might be a non-issue. But it can get chilly at night in this part of Michigan. That's fine, but just mention this in the listing. We loved the quiet & the rustic nature of the accommodations, but the price is a bit high for what it is. To be fair, it's probably a lot more affordable than many other nearby places, given how touristy the area near Saugatuck is becoming.
