Hiking Base Camp
Wonderful property near Shenandoah River and National Park. Lovely, historic home. With abundant space for outdoor activities.
Superb location and home
Great location and home. We stayed for two nights in July - 2019. Best home for cooking, eating, outdoor games! Highlight our stay is Kayaking. Flowing river water is best suited for family Kayaking. We will return soon!
Good stay for long weekend for 9 people
It is a spacious house to accommodate 9 people comfortably, they have 5 bathrooms which is helpful. We had a nice time here.
Just what we wanted!
We just got married in Shenandoah National Park and stayed in Stonewall Crossing before and after the ceremony, along with our parents and kids (8 people total). The house was beautiful and large. There were a couple rooms that we barely used because the weather was nice and we all hung out in the kitchen/dining area or outside. We took advantage of the outdoor fireplace to roast marshmallows, went kayaking in the river, played games on the deck, and ate wedding cake.
We'd use this property again. That said, I want to offer a few comments/suggestions to the owners and anyone looking to stay at Stonewall Crossing. 1) The deck could use some nicer furniture. What is out there isn't bad but it isn't up to par with the interior furnishings. And, with such a nice location overlooking the river, it would be great to have some really nice outdoor furniture to sit on. Maybe a love seat and/or a glider? 2) There are actually two decks on the house, one over the other. The upper deck does a good job of providing shade and rain protection for the lower one, unless it rains a lot. Then, the water pools in low spots on the upper deck and drips down onto the lower deck. Fixing this is probably not an easy thing to do, but we found that sweeping the puddles off of the upper deck was an effective short-term solution for us. 3) There is a green kayak that seems to have a leak. We emptied a lot of water out of it before we used it and then had a couple inches of water in it after using it for only an hour or so. It was in no danger of sinking but the water makes the boat heavy and harder to paddle.
The comments in the previous paragraph are relatively minor. Overall, Stonewall Crossing was a great place to stay and provided us everything that we wanted and needed.
Beautiful property, very comfortable and spacious home
This is a property that is both historic and very modern. Extremely spacious and private, very comfortable and good for a large group. Great outdoor fire pit, wraparound porches and easy access to the river for kayaking, with kayaks provided on the property. Ideal for a summer getaway with 8-12 people.
Wonderful stay for our wedding party!
We had our wedding at a local venue and Stonewall Crossing was the perfect location for my bridal party and family to stay at. We had plenty of room to get ready for the rehearsal dinner and the big day all in one location. The house was wonderfully clean and well stocked with everything you could need. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Luray!
