Large Family Retreat
We had a large family trip and this was the perfect location for all our needs. The location and views from this home are unbeatable. Suzanne was a dream to work with--was very quick and friendly to communicate with. We rented the big house and the carriage house. The big house has the dreamiest porch where we spent much of our time and all of our meals. The fridge in the kitchen is old but huge and held so much food, it was the best. The house is older and has its quirks. There was an older musty smell but it passed once we opened windows and got air moving through. We had the best time here!
“When in Maine, the Main thing is to keep Maine the Main thing.” reads a note in our library.... For sure, BVF is no “cabin in the woods” but this week was about our family of 16, “ reunioning” day-tripping, hiking, cooking, dining, card playing, painting and..doing dishes! Unexpected moderate water temps invited much paddle boarding and waterplay. The house exudes generations of graciousness, with the glorious Penobscot Bay underneath the ballroom -sized magical porch, (which is where we LIVED while at the house.)Suzanne and Ethan were gracious and helpful and available. We appreciated everything about the “not overly edited and updated” vintage house (with enough modern concessions to delight). We are cooks and the oh-so-generously equipped kitchen was terrific. (The cold “blast from the past” handsome refrigerator, the size of a small car, held groceries, beverages and all leftovers)
For us, it WAS the Maine thing, and we could have not been more pleased.
Charming house with beautiful view.
Great house for a family vacation!
Quaint and quirky old home with gorgeous views of Penobscot Bay
BIG old home. 1 couple said mattress not comfy, sags in middle. This is front bedroom w/Jack & Jill bath. 3 full bath up, only 2 w/showers,1 adult shared shower in master. House built 1916, has character but reflects age. Many windows/doors stuck but weather cool & no AC not prob. Big back porch w/amazing bay view. Spent most time there for coffee, cocktails, barBQ & after dinner conversation. Porch not clean. Wicker furniture old but ok; cushions shabby & faded. Spider/cobwebs all around porch,in corners,on/under furniture. Doubt porch cleaned/swept B4 our arrival;had to clean it myself. Owners charge a cleaning fee; so house should be spotless. House dusty & musty. I opened all windows/doors that I could open. After 2 days, mustiness gone OR we just got used to it. Bed linens clean w/fresh towels in baths. Rugs prob vacuumed b/c vacuum head left out in front hallway, almost tripped over it. I put it in the front hall closet. Upon leaving, cleaning crew couldn’t find vacuum. DUH, try checking closet?! Furniture/furnishings comfortable w/eclectic antiques & modern elements;all work nicely together. LR TV too small. Upstairs den TV good size. No TVs in bedrooms. I know u don’t go to ME to watch TV but we like to watch TV b/4 bed & early am. Others also commented on no TVs in bedrooms. Downstairs rooms R dark due to dark wood panels. Upstairs light & airy. Kitchen was ok. Oven not work well. Diff to tell if oven on/off. Note by stove mentions this prob. Stove burners & barBQ worked well. No refrig in kitchen, only orig icebox; adorable, not practical. 3 icebox doors not open/close properly. Icebox seems dirty inside; worked ok & food cold, no spoilege. Real refrig is in basement laundry room, hassle to go up/down for items. Clean crew left load of clean towels in dryer; towels should have been folded & placed in bedrooms.
Pros: quaint ME home, GREAT location, GREAT porch w/views. Steps & decks to beach well kept. Lovely beach. Owners helpful & accessible by phone/text & supplied a pack & play at last minute. TY for that!
Cons: cleanliness issue; suggest get new clean crew or give crew specific weekly cores/instructions. Baths need updating. Kit needs real refrig & working oven. Porch WiFi weak, needs booster. No one to greet u on arrival to show u around, explain things etc, just notes all over w/instructions.Outside paint peeling & thus unattractive.House would get 5 stars if not for cons. All said, we enjoyed!
It was wonderful!
The house was so amazing; so full of character. We had 18 in our party and everyone had their own space and privacy. The huge porch was so lovely. Looking forward to renting again.
Bayview Farm is a Magical
From the moment we stepped into this charming home, we knew it was were we belonged for our Maine family vacation. The first floor with its abundance of rooms and beautiful furnishings was rarely used ( other than the kitchen and convenient half bath) because we were drawn to the huge back porch with its breathtaking view of Penobscot Bay. We believe we saw the peaks of Acadia in the distance!!! We ate all our meals on the large table which accommodated all eight adults and pulled over a lovely bistro table as the kids table for our 4 little ones! Preparing meals was easy in this well equipped kitchen with its period icebox, and we made some recipes using herbs from the handy herb garden.
The second floor bedrooms were so inviting. The 2 little girls immediately claimed the room with the twin beds and the master and other spacious bedrooms accomoadated us so comfortably. One couple stayed in the Carriage House which gave us more than ample space.
The grounds of Bayview worked well for our group! How much fun to walk down the long flight of stone and wooden steps to our private rocky beach. The kids and adults alike enjoyed collecting sea glass and kayaking in our rented kayaks. We took advantage of the backyard with its fire pit, too.
This active group took long runs, or bike rides, right from the front door. We walked to town and bravely jumped from the pier into the cold Maine water!!
Our visits to Camden, Belfast and Acadia were all delightful and easy rides from this well located home.
Suzanne was easy to reach and delightful to work with!!
My only regret was that we did not stay longer, it was so hard to leave this beautiful home and village that were like a throw back in time!!!
