My Grandfather purchased the property in 1939 and built a little log cabin for his family. He named it Demilog for its construction of half logs. It is still with us and can be seen/rented on VRBO #263457. In 1955 he boldly built this cabin called Overbank because it hangs over the water 90 feet in front of Demilog.. He and Grandma lived in this one from May to October each year. As the years went by my Grandfather passed and then my Grandma passed the property down to her children. My mom ended up buying out her brothers when they wanted to moved on. We named it Oxford Cottages (Oxford was her married name) after her because we were so grateful that she didn't sell out with them. My mom passed suddenly in 2009 from a heart attack which threw my brother and I into ownership and I took over the booking and started showing it on VRBO. After nine years, my brother wanted to move on, so I bought him out in 2017. My husband Fred and I are now the sole owners.
I was raised in Middlebury, Vermont but have lived the last 40 years in Maryland just north of DC. I went to DC as a young single to be trained as a Sign Language Interpreter at Gallaudet University. I found I loved working in Educational Interpreting and have worked the last 31 years at Montgomery College. I met my husband Fred right after college and we settled down to raise a family. He worked for 40 years in IT in the school system. He just retired September 30, 2020. We have 3 wonderful children Jason, Kristin and Jesse and 3 remarkable grandchildren all of which I hope will be future owners of Oxford Cottages!
