Tour of Poets em Obidos

This is a very special property, which we highly recommend. The house is huge with lots of nooks and crannies - the photos do not do it justice! All five of us agreed that it was easily the coolest place we stayed in a 10-day trip through Portugal. The house is steeped in history and charm (but all the bathrooms are completely up to date!) And it was wonderful to stay in Obidos after the crush of tourists had left. We had a fabulous dinner at the castle but mostly enjoyed hanging out at this house before dinner (on the patio) and after (playing cards in the fabulous living room). One caveat: don't bother trying to drive all the way to the house; park outside the town walls and carry your bags in, because the driving is just too difficult on narrow cobblestone streets thronged with pedestrians. We wish we had had more than one night here!

This property is truly one of a kind in a small village that is special. The private rooms have updated bathrooms but retain their old world charm. Room four has a wonderful two-person balcony. But it's the public rooms and spaces that make this property come alive. The main hall has both an old-world but also an energy about it that makes for great conversation and camaraderie. Also the main patio is also wonderful for a glass of wine. Groups taking over the place are best, but we met a wonderful family for our overnight.

Last, the breakfast is fabulous and staff very helpful!

We enjoyed staying at this place so much!! Makes you feel like you are living in the Portugal of the 1600's. Maria met us promptly upon arrival, and gave us a tour of the house and told us all we needed to know. We were 3 couples that shared the whole house which was really nice and recommend that if you have enough people. You will be right in the center of town ( everything is very close ) Parking is not far away outside of the walls. We loved bringing back our own wine and cheese and enjoying it on the outdoor terrace, or the cozy library. You will be sleeping in a house which tourists stop to take pictures of, which we loved. Most people just come to Obidos for a day. We enjoyed being there when the tourists go home and living like the locals. Maria was a great host and the house is priced very well for that you get.

Our party of eight had the most wonderful stay in the Torre de Maneys in Obidos! We were there during the Medieval Festival, which only added to the excitement of staying inside the walls of the city. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed preparing meals as much as we enjoyed dining out. Maria was a wonderful host, and we can't wait to return again soon.

Beautiful home with a lot of space and character. Like going back in time but with all of the modern amenities.
