First of all, the owners were lovely - great at communicating and we were met on arrival with the keys. When we asked if we could stay a little longer in the flat because of a late flight - no problem either. Such a pleasure to deal with flexible and kind hosts. Apartment itself was spotless and the living/dining room was a lovely light space to spend time in. And the location is great - supermarket round the corner and some lovely cafes and bars literally on your doorstep. If I was going back to Funchal - I would definitely stay here again.
Die Wohnung entspricht in allen Anforderungen genau dem, was versprochen war. Eine großzügige , sehr komfortable Wohnung, mitten in der Stadt gelegen. Alles in Funchal ist in kurzer Zeit zu Fuß zu erreichen.
Uns hat es nicht gestört, dass direkt gegenüber der Schulhof einer Grundschule liegt mit der entsprechenden Geräuschkulisse der Kinder in den Pausen. Für Geräuschempfindliche ist die Wohnung wahrscheinlich auch wegen des Straßenverkehrs am Tage nicht so geeeignet.
Nachts hingegen ist es ruhig.
Wir fühlten uns nicht gestört, bewußt wollten wir die Vorzüge der Stadtmitte genießen.
Die Wohnung entspricht modernstem Standard, bietet viel Platz und war äußerst sauber.
Der Sohn des Eigentümers hat uns sehr freundlich empfangen und alles bestens erklärt.

We stayed for 7 weeks at this clean apartment in a building which is about 6 years old. The pictures shown are accurate. Other units in this four story building are owner occupied and the neighbours were very quiet. Even though the apartment is on the fourth floor, we did notice some sounds of traffic on the cobble stone street (Rua das Hortas) below. The location in the downtown part of Funchal, away from the Hotel Zone, was, for us, perfect because it is close to the Zona Velha (Old Town), all public transportation, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, shops and laundries. We walked or took public transit everywhere and did not feel the need to have a car. There is no sea view but the apartment has a pleasant view facing the Fortaleza and mountains with an unobstructed view over a school, which means happy schoolyard sounds during the day! If the afternoon sun is too warm there is an air conditioner but, by using the drapes and blinds, we did not use it. All appliances were modern and worked well. Electric fridge, freezer and washing machine. The cook top is gas as is the hot water tank. For a North American not used to hot water on demand systems, this took a bit of adjustment. The beds are comfortable and the bedding and towels are hotel quality because the owners also operate a resort on the other side of the island. The owners (we dealt with both the father and his son who speaks perfect English) are friendly, responsive and wish to please. For example, they provided us with an electric coffee maker. If you plan to do laundry, you may wish to ask them to provide a laundry rack to supplement the smallish wall mounted rack on the outside patio. The dining room chairs in the pictures are quite comfortable and are light enough to move to the living room area or the patio. The internet is fast and the flat screen tv has about six English channels, mostly news. Both the full size tub and the shower in the two bathrooms are large and work well. In addition to a toaster, electric juicer and immersion blender, there are lots of dishes, glasses, cutlery and pots and pans which was good for us because we ate most of our meals in the apartment. We did, however, buy some larger bowls for mixing salads. The landlord’s welcome gift included a bottle of wine and a bolo de mel (traditional Madeiran cake) from the Padaria do Calhau in Sao Vicente. The bolo do mel was the best that we have ever eaten on the island!
We were very pleased to stay in this modern, clean and comfortable apartment, which is well-located in the centre of town.
A short walk brings you to the sea, shops, buses, museums, cathedral, parks, etc.
You have to pay quite a lot extra for carparking, so we didn't hire a car, and that limited our exploration of the island especially to the north, but during a short holiday that was ok. We did get to the north coast via Flora Tours (booked at the Tourist Office, and very good indeed).
There are two excellent supermarkets within 3 minutes walk, open till 10pm every day (Continente and Pingo Douce).
And the fruit and fish market is just a stroll away.
We would definitely recommend this apartment, and the helpful landlords - when a light fitting stopped working they came immediately the next day to fix it.
If you have never been to Madeira before this would make a great starting point as it's so central. You can catch a bus at the end of the road to take you up to Monte, to visit various gardens or go on the teleferique, or walk along the levadas. All are wondeful. If you know your way around, this is still a great location as it's absolutely central and near to so many nice restaurants.
We arrived at the apartment by taxi because our flight was late. Thank goodness the taxi-drivers at the airport all ganged up to ring the landlord to find out exactly where it was... All in all, this gets five stars. We loved it.
Ao escolher esta propriedade para passar uns dias de ferias não pode de deixar de visitar outros locais interessantes da ilha, como uma viagem de teleférico ao Monte e jardim botânico.
A casa fica a 100m do museu Henrique e Francisco Franco e proximo de outros como Museu Quinta das Cruzes, Casa Museu Frederico de Freitas, Museu Minicipal.
O facto de ficar no centro da cidade, permitir encontrar uma vasta gama de actividades de caracter cultural e de ofertas de serviços de lazer.
É importante reservar um ou dois para uma deslocação á costa norte, para visitar a Rota da Cal e Grutas de São Vicente assim como as piscinas naturais do Porto Moniz.
