We really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again in the future!
Those are not the chairs you will find at the property!
Not worth the money-misrepresented by the picture and inside was even worse in the bathroom. The property owners are non responsive if you call. Good Luck!!! Too bad you can't see the chairs we had to pick up from the dumpster so we could sit on the top deck! What we had to go thru ruined our vacation
This renter had a few cosmetic issues (electrical outlet cover was cracked, a shower handle had rust, slat in chair on a deck chair was broken from previous tenant). I sent the handyman out that very day to correct the issues. The handyman did the few small repairs this and went to the local ace hardware to get two more deck chairs. At home just learning of this broken chair I immediately put in an order for the super nice deck chairs replacements, which unfortunately take a few weeks to get in, since they are custom made, dolphin watching chairs, specifically built to withstand the coastal conditions in Hatteras. I did everything I could to help this guest. The guest wrote this aweful review as she demanded a refund, and I told her I had fixed all of her issues, I could not give a refund, which is standard policy with all owners on VRBO.
Cabana on the beach
The cabanas were cute, the location was perfect. I only gave 3 stars because the mattress was very saggy, the couch needed to be vacuumed, and some of the outdoor furniture was in disrepair
Nice for what I paid
Overall, it was about what I expected for the price paid. It was a great location. The kids and I loved walking out to the beach! Not at all crowded and relatively quiet.
The cabana itself could use a little TLC.
Several spindles on the decking were loose, one missing altogether. I didn’t have young children or pets, so I wasn’t terribly concerned. But we loved the 2 story deck. It was great to read in the shade or go up above for the view.
The showerhead in the bathroom looked new, however it was spraying water out of the jointed connection. It also dripped for several hours after use.
On the info you sent out prior to our stay, it would have been great to know what appliances/kitchen goods were in the cabana. I only use a single use coffee machine at home and brought pods but there was only a regular coffee maker. Again, not a big deal but the info would have been nice.
The WiFi was exceptionally slow during the day. Best time to use it was late at night or early in the morning. The cable channels kept cutting out as well. Not a huge issue since we were on vacation, but also would have been nice to know.
The cabana is small, much like a small hotel room, but my 2 teen daughters and I enjoyed our stay!
Really great stay, landlord was nice - just a couple issues
Its a small bungalow situated in a small cul-de-sac of similar bungalows, probably 15-20 in all, all situated right next to the beach. You walk to the back of the cul-de-sac, and climb steps up the boardwalk to the beach. Less than 2 minutes, really great!
It was kept in great, clean condition, and they left the broom so we were able to clean up after ourselves. And the door lock was very sturdy, couldn't ask for better.
The town is straight out of a story. Besides the immaculate, uncrowded beaches, if you walk around, you'll find gems like the coffee shop, the snackery, ice cream shops, pubs, kayak & board rentals, and a 10-20 min drive away are even more places to eat and shop. All independent too, just a couple chain stores up the road like Food Lion to grab inexpensive groceries and the like.
I will say, the listing stated that they have internet, but during our stay, there was no internet to speak of, and my cell signal was nil, so internet was all I had. I wasn't able to take care of any of my online business, it seemed like the people who own the bungalow were being misled by the cul-de-sac office who said that the internet was being worked on. Not once was I able to connect to the internet. Which would have been fine, its just that its listed in the listing, and it wasn't available.
Unfortunately, there was something I didn't approve of. When we arrived, there was an envelope asking us to tip the cleaning crew that "cleaned up" the cabana before we got there.
On HomeAway, we are charged $20 for Cleaning, and then in the rental agreement we are directed to clean up the cabana completely, which we did. I assume the renter before us did the same, and we have to supply our own paper products, trash bags, towels and sheets, take out the trash, and use the broom and vacuum. The only thing the cleaning service would have to do is verify the place is clean, wash the sheets and make the bed, and that's only after we leave. And clean the shower & toilet regularly. I could see if we were getting daily cleaning service, or if we didn't have to clean up so stringently after ourselves, but I feel like what's asked of the cleaning crew is minimal and that, if anything, the tip should be taken care of by the owner, not us, who already paid for their services.
A Touch of Warmth
It was invigorating and restful at the same time to get away from the reality that New England winters can run into April. Hatters, NC and the sound of the Atlantic was just as perfect as I thought it would be. Before my trip, I hadn't thought beyond what the sun, sea, and warmth would offer. As I was heading home I realized that I was warmed from within by more that the elements of nature. The people in the cabana complex and the area in general, were so willing to engage in conversation and speak glowingly of their area, sending me to various places in town and beyond to explore. Check out the library for local authors, kids' book, and, particularly, the Archeological display of the earliest inhabitants of the area, The Croatoan. Also, The Graveyard of the Atlantic is a marine lovers dream come true. Cape Hatteras National Seashore is a gem!
The Lost Shaker of Salt cabana was charming, comfortable, well maintained and perfect for my stay. Not to mention colorful and in keeping with the ambiance of the area. Easy to communicate with Erin with questions and receiving important information. I plan on returning next spring for a shot of a touch of warmth.
