Spacious, clean appartment and wonderful location close to Manini Beach and kealakekua bay. Kay is a super host, always helpful and friendly and she brought us nice presents and fruits and we felt very welcome. Very friendly neighbours downstairs. During daytime it is very hot in the house, was no problem for us because we were mostly at one of the amazing places around. One bedroom is with AC. It is private and quite and everything you need for cooking is in the house. We loved to just walk to manini beach and hang out there for a nice picnic and the amazing sunsets there. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Lots of space, quiet ,and Kay stocked the apartment with all sorts of local goodies. Only a short walk to Kealakekua Bay, and only a few minutes drive to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau Nationa Historic Park and Two-Step (for beautiful snorkeling). Great place and we'll definitely rent from her again!
Kay's place was in a perfect spot for enjoying the nearby snorkeling and kayaking. Easy walk to kayak rentals, and an easy 3-mile drive to great snorkeling at 2-step.
We saw spinner dolphins leap right in front of our kayaks on the bay near the Captain Cook monument, and the snorkeling at 2-step was perfect and easy for our first-timer kids.
It's not modern, or air conditioned, but it suited all of our needs and Kay was an excellent host.
Property was well situated for enjoying the captain cook area. Note that there is a steep windy road to get in and out of the area ~2k feet. For the divers, this may take addition planning depending on how conservative you want to be. It also adds time if you are touring the island. If you are good with the location, this is a great option. The property manager obviously cares about the property. Note that the outdoor laundry facilities are shared with the renters downstairs. One final note if you have cat allergies, there are a lot of cats that call the general property home (all are outdoor cats).
The good news: Kay was so sweet and the property has everything we needed in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Was the perfect size for our family and easy walk to beautiful beach views. Easy drive to many nearby attractions too.
The bad news: We visited during June/July and the property was HOT during the day. Even with the fans and a/c in bedroom, it was not comfortable to be in most of the property. We spent most of the days out anyway and during the evening it cooled waaaaay down. So if you are planning to stay at property throughout the day, be prepared. I’d still stay there again despite this though!
Thanks for staying at my place
Great Hawaiin Vibe
Very basic and perfect for those wishing to experience the Big Isalnd off the beaten path. Manini Beach is minutes from the house and is one great snorkel spot. There is no ac but plenty of fans to keep the breeze moving throughout the house. Don't expect the same tourist experience as Kona, but that’s what makes Kay’s pad so awesome! Thank you for the great hospitality and all the yummy fruits and other treats you had for us on arrival. Our family loved it Kay!
