A Holiday at Quinta de Sao Sebastiao

We arrived in Sintra after a long and tiring journey and we walked from Sintra Villa station towards the town hall as Quinta de Sao Sebastiao was accessed from the road at the side. It was very steep and cobbled and we couldn’t find the main entrance. We phoned Salvador, who lives in the Manor and from whom we were renting the property, and within a couple of minutes he was with us, greeting us like old friends and taking some of our cases. The Quinta is very beautiful with a long drive and we went past the house and down a flight of steps, then through a little passage and down a few more steps. The cottage was beautiful, very rustic but sympathetically modernised. There was everything there we needed, including a washing machine and microwave and Salvador had kindly lain in tea, bacon, eggs, bread, cheese and milk so that we could have something to eat on arrival. We found Salvador to be a charming and helpful host, always on call for information or any problems, and even inviting us to the Manor for drinks and a viewing of the stunning frescoes on the walls. The view from the front of the Manor was breathtaking, with the Castelo dos Mouros on the top of the mountain and the National Palace off to the right.
There are two entrances to the Quinta and you are given the key and a pass code that opens the side gate or the main electric gates. The main shopping area is within a few minutes walk and the station is about 5 minutes away although you cannot hear the trains from the cottage at all. Sintra itself is quaint and quirky (and uphill!!) with many little side alleys crammed with shops and restaurants. There is a horse drawn carriage you can hire to go around the town and a very regular bus service. We did not have a car but got about without any difficulty. Our 3 year old granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed herself especially the beautiful beaches. There is also a playground in Sintra. All in all we had a fantastic holiday. The cottage is peaceful and private and kept very clean. Some of the steps in the garden need to be negotiated with care as they are very old but the garden is beautiful. There is also a swimming pool just off the drive that you climb some steps up cheerful, polite and friendly. We will certainly be going back.to. It is very pretty and the views are stunning. I cannot recommend this holiday home highly enough; both our charming host, Salvador, and all the members of staff are
